How to choose the right trends for you

Desde adolescente que sempre me interessei por moda e tendo tido a minha cota parte de experiência como modelo antes da entrada na Universidade, o gosto ficou sempre retido em mim ainda que adormecido durante alguns anos.
Mas sempre vi a moda e as tendências como uma fonte de inspiração e não como uma obrigatoriedade. Ter estilo e estar-se bem vestido está muito mais relacionado com o sentir-mo-nos confiantes do que propriamente com o estar a usar a peça mais badalada da estação.
Sou de opinião que nem todas as tendências funcionam bem em todas as pessoas e por vezes não funcionam e ponto - nem mesmo na mulher mais bonita do mundo.
Adoro estar atenta ao street style, mas no meio de tanto estilo também não faltam pavões com um exagero exacerbado que chega mesmo a roçar o ridículo quando a necessidade de sobressair e parecer cool ultrapassa o sentido da estética e da própria moda.
Ainda assim também já dei por mim, mais do que uma vez, a deixar-me apaixonar por uma tendência que inicialmente desgostei por completo.
Como é, afinal, possível fazer as escolhas certas na hora de comprar as mais recentes tendências?

Since I was a teenager I have always been interested in fashion and having had my share of experience as a model before entering University, the taste was always retained in me even if numb for a few years. But I have always seen fashion and trends as a source of inspiration and not as an obligation. Having style is much more related to feeling confident than to being wearing the hottest trend of the season.
I am of the opinion that not all trends work well for all people and sometimes they simply don't work - not even in the most beautiful woman in the world. I love to be attentive to street style, but in the midst of so much style there are also peacocks with exaggerated choices that even rubs the ridiculous when the need to stand out and look cool surpasses the sense of aesthetics and fashion itself.
Yet I have also, more than once, let myself fall in love with a trend I initially disliked in the first place after some time.
How is it then possible to make the right choices when buying the latest trends?
PENSE INTEMPORAL / THINK TIMELESS
Um dos exercícios que gosto de fazer é pensar se me vejo a usar aquela peça no ano seguinte - mesmo que possa deixar de ser uma peça trendy. E claro que há peças e escolhas que serão sempre intemporais e nunca deixarão de estar na moda.
Uma outra dica é investir mais em peças de qualidade que se saiba que nos acompanharão por vários anos e optar por comprar peças mais em conta que possam passar de moda rapidamente.

One of the exercises I like to do is think if I see myself wearing that piece the following year - even if it ceases to be a trendy piece. And of course there are pieces and choices that will always be timeless and will never stop being fashionable. Another tip is to invest more in quality pieces that are known to accompany you for several years and choose to buy more affordable ones that might go out of style quickly.
SAIBA QUAL O SEU UNIFORME / KNOW YOUR UNIFORM
Todos temos a nossa combinação favorita de roupa, aquela pela qual optamos na maioria dos dias e com a qual nos sentimos mais confortáveis. Para algumas mulheres pode ser jeans e uma blusa, para outras uma saia midi e uma camisola. O importante é aceitar que esse é o seu estilo e investir nesse sentido.
Os ténis foram um hit na última estação e optei por comprar apenas um par numa cor neutra que pudesse usar ocasionalmente com aquilo que faz parte do meu roupeiro. Mas a verdade é que sou uma pessoa de sapatos mais elegantes e é neles que prefiro investir.

We all have our favorite combination of clothing, the one we choose most days and which we feel most comfortable with. For some women it could be jeans and a blouse, for others a midi skirt and a sweater. The important thing is to accept that this is your style and invest in it. Sneakers were a big hit last season and I opted to buy only a pair in a neutral color that I could occasionally wear with what's in my wardrobe. But the truth is that I am a person of more elegant shoes and it's in them that I prefer to invest.
PENSE EM CONFORTO / THINK CONFORT
Por mais elegante que uns saltos altos possam ser, a visão de um andar dorido e descoordenado arruína o mais bonito dos looks.
Seja qual for a tendência deve sempre pensar se sente confortável a usá-la e isso fará toda a diferença na atitude e consequentemente no estilo.
Por mais tendência que seja agora e que até possa gostar de ver nos outros, o faux fur - ou pêlo sintético - é algo com o qual não me sinto bem e portanto não me faz sentido investir numa peça dessas. Usei um casaco lindo pontualmente nesta situação por achar que era a escolha certa para o vestido, mas foi um casaco emprestado - caso contrário o mais certo seria ter investido para usar uma vez e ficar arrumado no roupeiro.

As elegant as high heels may be, the sight of sore and uncoordinated walking ruins the most stylish of looks. Whatever the trend you should always think if you will feel comfortable wearing it and this will make all the difference in attitude and consequently the style. However trending it may be now and even if I enjoy seeing it on others, faux fur is something I don't feel good about and therefore it makes no sense for me to invest in such a piece. I wore a beautiful coat in this situation because I thought it was the right choice for the dress, but it was a borrowed coat - otherwise it would certainly be left hanged in the wardrobe.
DÊ-LHE TEMPO / GIVE IT SOME TIME
Quando vejo uma peça de tendência que adoro de imediato mas que foge um pouco àquele que é o meu estilo e uniforme básico, tento resistir ao impulso de comprar imediatamente.
Posso afirmar que na maioria das vezes que comprei por impulso acabei por me arrepender ao passo que, de todas as vezes que esperei algum tempo, a escolha acabou por se revelar sempre acertada - fosse no sentido de efetivamente fazer a compra ou desistir dela.
Pensar sobre isso é por isso uma das formas mais eficazes de a ajudar a decidir se vale a pena ou não o investimento.

When I see a trend piece that I love right away but is not within my basic style and uniform, I try to resist the urge to buy it right away. I can say that most of the times that I bought on impulse I ended up regretting it, whereas every time I waited for some time, the choice turned out to be always right - whether it was to actually make the purchase or give it up. Thinking about it the buy is therefore one of the most effective ways to help you decide whether or not your investment is worth it.
